This weekend, 10 swimmers from The Master’s Academy varsity team competed in the Regional championships for Florida High School Athletic Association. This is one step away from qualifying for the State competition.
In 2012, Mike was asked to start a swim program at the school where we have sent all of our kids. That first year we had 24 students on the team, only one of which swam competitively. After 4 years of building we sent 10 of our 17 swimmers to the second round of qualifying rounds for State championships.
Mike started the program partially out of an interest of Monica, our third child. And continued to volunteer as head coach, along with Amy as Assistant Coach, until this year. But with Audrey, our youngest and also on the swim team, graduating we will no longer be at the school and our era of coaching will come to an end.
The nigh before our last swim meet, we shared with them about the value of setting goals and striving for accomplishments. But that your goals should not define you. World records will bring great accolades, but past Olympic swimmers are quickly forgotten and those records are broken by someone else.
What you need to focus on is on the eternal, the unseen goals of God in your life. We are striving toward that ultimate goal of hearing our heavenly Coach say,”well done good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your master”
